Abstract

FOR many years both farmers and research workers have been interested in the use of rock phosphate as an alternative phosphate fertiliser to superphosphate.

The appeal of rock phosphate lies in three points. Firstly, it has a higher phosphate content, secondly there is the hope that it will have a greater residual benefit than super, which is more liable to leaching and supposedly more likely to be tied up in some unavailable form in the soil, and thirdly rock phosphate costs less per ton.
