Abstract

The North Eastern Agricultural region (NEAR) strategy is a long-term plan to increase drought preparedness and resilience of farm businesses in the region. Following the dry seasons of 2006 and 2007, the Minister for Agriculture and Food requested a ‘long-term strategy for the management of issues farmers face in the event of consecutive bad years’. To meet the objectives of the strategy, the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia worked closely with the rural communities of the region to develop a number of projects.
