Cover: 'The Menzies Banksia" (Banksia Menziesii R Br). A common tree less than 18 ft tall fund generally in the sandy coastal country extending from the Murchison River to King George's Sound. Dwarf forms occur in the open sandplains. The species commemorates Archibald Menzies , surgeon and botanist to Captian Vancouver's expedition of discovery and survey of the northwest coast of America. He also accompanied Menzies on his expedition of 1790-1795, during which King George's Sound was discovered and named, and it was here that this banksia was discovered.
