Abstract

Observations in 1970 showed the development of superficial scald in stored apples to be significantly reduced by pre-harvest sprays of calcium nitrate.

It was decided to extend the results of a bitter pit experiment to include the effects of pre-harvest calcium nitrate applications on subsequent incidence of superficial scald during short term storage of Granny Smith apples.
